Abstract

This paper examines cool pavements' impact as a sustainable solution for mitigating the urban heat island effect (UHI). The study explores the performance of cool pavements in outdoor settings, focusing on their ability to reduce surface temperatures and improve thermal comfort. It evaluates various materials and technologies used in cool pavements, such as reflective coatings, permeable surfaces, and high-albedo materials, and assesses their effectiveness in different climatic conditions. The research also considers factors like energy savings, air quality improvement, and environmental benefits, while identifying durability, cost, and maintenance challenges. The findings aim to inform urban planning strategies, offering insights into the potential of cool pavements for creating cooler, more resilient urban spaces in the face of increasing temperatures due to climate change.
